Hytale Update 7 Hotfixes — 0.7.2 World Crash & Linux Fixes, A Reworked Backpack Upgrade II, Plus 0.7.1 Joining Fixes

Update 7's hotfixes arrived in two quick passes: 0.7.1 on October 13 and 0.7.2 on October 14, 2026. Between them they cover the two categories of problem that matter most to a live world — crashes that take the whole server down with them, and players who can't get in — plus a rework of one of Update 7's headline progression items.

The official notes come straight from the Hytale team — check out the full hotfix notes from the developers of Hytale.

💥 0.7.2: A World Crash That Disconnected Everyone

  • Fixed a world crash that disconnected every player in the world. It happened when a cave chunk loaded with an old goblin spawn beacon from Update 6 and the goblins it had spawned.

This is the most serious item across both hotfixes, and the cause is worth understanding: the crash required an Update 6-era goblin spawn beacon to end up in a chunk that loads after the Update 7 changes. That means it wouldn't hit every world, and it wouldn't hit a fresh one at all — it would hit long-running worlds that carried their history forward, at whatever moment a player happened to walk a cave into range. The failure mode is the worst kind for a community world: not a bug one player reports, but everyone online dropped simultaneously, with no obvious cause from the player's side.

If your world has been running since before Update 7 and your players have reported a mysterious mass disconnect in a cave, this is very likely it — and it's fixed.

🐧 0.7.2: Linux Crash In RocksDB Chunk Worlds

  • Fixed a crash on Linux in worlds that use RocksDB chunk storage.

Short in the notes, significant for anyone hosting on Linux. Worlds using RocksDB chunk storage are a server-side configuration, so this crash is one that a hosting environment would feel and a singleplayer world largely wouldn't. Worth applying promptly if that's your setup.

🎒 0.7.2: Backpack Upgrade II Reworked

  • Backpack Upgrade II now crafts at the Goblin Tinkerer's Workbench after you repair the Compressor. It costs 150 Scraps, 10 Spider Silk and 1 Voidtaken Grizzly Hide.
  • Backpack Upgrade II no longer needs 100 restored memories.

A double change: the upgrade moved to a specific crafting station unlocked by repairing the Compressor, and the 100-restored-memories requirement was dropped entirely. The second half is the meaningful one for progression pacing — restored memories were a long-tail collection task, and gating a backpack upgrade behind 100 of them made inventory space something players waited on rather than worked towards. Now it's a materials checklist at the Tinkerer's Workbench, which is a farm you can actually plan.

🧩 0.7.2: The Zone1_Plains1 Region Instance Loads Again

  • The Zone1_Plains1 region instance loads in the released game again.

One line, filed under modder-facing fixes — and it's the kind of single line that unblocks a whole class of work. A region instance that only failed to load in the released build is the sort of discrepancy that costs modders days of chasing a problem that isn't theirs.

🚪 0.7.1: Joining And Connecting Fixes

  • Switching avatar presets no longer drops you into offline mode until you restart the game. A restart-the-game workaround for something as routine as changing your avatar is a rough experience — gone now.
  • Joining a world hosted on Windows should no longer time out after 30 seconds just as you enter the world. This affected both LAN joins and joins over the internet.
  • If your IP address changes during a session — switching from Wi-Fi to Ethernet, for example — you can now reconnect right away, instead of the server refusing the reconnect as "already logged in".

All three of these look small and all three are the sort of thing that turns into a support thread. The 30-second join timeout on Windows-hosted worlds is the one to note for community servers: a player who times out just as they enter the world reads as a broken server, not as a bug, and it made LAN hosts in particular look far worse than they were. The "already logged in" refusal is the classic ghost of a dropped connection — anything from a laptop switching from Wi-Fi to Ethernet to a phone hotspot handing over a new address mid-session would lock a player out until the session timed out on the server side. Both are now handled.

🌀 0.7.1: The Portal Disconnect

  • Fixed a disconnect when you go through a portal while a projectile you fired or threw — an arrow or a kunai — is still in flight.

A precise, oddly specific bug, which is usually a sign of a precise, oddly specific cause. Whatever the underlying interaction, the practical effect was disconnecting a player for doing two normal things in the same second near a portal. Fixed.

🧰 0.7.1: Mod Browser And Creative Tools

  • Mods whose creators do not allow in-game downloads now show a disabled Install button with an explanation, instead of failing with a connection error. Those mods can still be downloaded directly from CurseForge.
  • On Windows and Linux, the Node Editor now opens from the Creative Tools menu instead of closing right away.

The Mod Browser change is entirely about reducing false reports: "this mod won't install" and "the mod browser is broken" are two very different problems, and telling them apart in the UI is worth more than the fix itself. The Node Editor fix matters to anyone doing creative or mod work on Windows or Linux, where the editor window would open and immediately close.

🏛️ 0.7.1: Forgotten Temple Fixes

  • Both teleporters in the Forgotten Temple now cost 25 Scraps and a Dubious Assembly to repair. Before, the two teleporters had different repair costs.
  • Teleporters in the Forgotten Temple now play a teleport sound when you use them.

Normalising the two repair costs removes a case where players could pick the "wrong" teleporter and pay more for no reason, and the missing teleport sound was a complaint players had to make twice before they were sure it wasn't their audio settings.

🧑🌾 0.7.1: NPC And Spawn Marker Fixes

  • Spawn markers no longer fail to spawn large NPCs that have enough room to stand.
  • Spawn markers have a new optional MaxVerticalSpawnOffset field, setting how far up and down the marker searches for a spawn spot, up to 32 blocks. If you leave it out, it uses MaxDropHeight, so existing markers keep their current range.
  • MaxVerticalSpawnOffset cannot be lower than MaxDropHeight, and MaxDropHeight still limits the final drop for ground movement.
  • A spawn marker with an invalid search range now logs a warning and is disabled, rather than misbehaving quietly.

The new field is a good example of expanding an API without breaking it: optional, defaulting to the old behaviour, and refusing values that can't work. And a marker that fails loudly instead of spawning something in the wrong place is easier to debug than the alternative.

🖥️ What This Means For Your Server

  • Update for the world crash alone. A cave chunk loading an old goblin spawn beacon could disconnect every player in the world. On a world that has carried data forward from Update 6, that's a ticking clock sitting in your world files — patch it.
  • If you host on Linux with RocksDB chunk storage, 0.7.2 is directly for you. This crash came out of a server-side storage configuration, so it's a hosting-environment problem first and a player-facing one second.
  • The 30-second join timeout fix will change how your server is perceived. Players timing out just as they enter a Windows-hosted world — over LAN or the internet — reported it as a broken or full server. If that's been a recurring complaint, this patch is the explanation and the fix.
  • Tell players the "already logged in" lockout is over. Changing networks mid-session used to leave a player unable to reconnect until the old session expired. That's now an immediate reconnect, and it's worth announcing because the old behaviour looked like a ban.
  • Backpack Upgrade II has a new recipe — update your guides and pins. It crafts at the Goblin Tinkerer's Workbench after repairing the Compressor for 150 Scraps, 10 Spider Silk and 1 Voidtaken Grizzly Hide, and no longer requires 100 restored memories. If your community documents progression, do that edit before someone farms memories they don't need.
  • Modded worlds and resource packs get a real fix. Zone1_Plains1 loading again in the released game unblocks content that worked in other builds, and the Mod Browser now explains itself instead of showing a connection error for creator-restricted mods.
  • Two hotfixes in two days means clients and server need to match. As always, patch the server before your evening population arrives rather than during it.

Conclusion

Hytale's Update 7 hotfixes split cleanly across two days. 0.7.2 (October 14) fixes a world crash that disconnected every player — caused by a cave chunk loading an old Update 6 goblin spawn beacon and its goblins — plus a Linux crash in worlds using RocksDB chunk storage, moves Backpack Upgrade II to the Goblin Tinkerer's Workbench after repairing the Compressor for 150 Scraps, 10 Spider Silk and 1 Voidtaken Grizzly Hide while dropping its 100 restored memories requirement, and restores the Zone1_Plains1 region instance. 0.7.1 (October 13) fixes avatar preset switching dropping players into offline mode, the 30-second join timeout on Windows-hosted worlds over LAN and internet, reconnects after an IP change being refused as "already logged in", a portal disconnect when a projectile is in flight, creator-restricted mods showing a disabled Install button with an explanation, the Node Editor closing immediately on Windows and Linux, Forgotten Temple teleporter repair costs and missing teleport sound, and spawn markers failing to place large NPCs — with a new optional MaxVerticalSpawnOffset field for modders.
