Minecraft Live September 2026 Recap — The Sift Becomes Minecraft's Fourth Dimension
The fall edition of Minecraft Live has wrapped, and it delivered the biggest structural announcement Minecraft has made in a very long time: a new dimension. The Sift arrives in Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition next year, joining the Overworld, the Nether and the End as the game's fourth dimension — the first new one in over fourteen years.
Alongside that came Minecraft Dungeons II (launching September 29, 2026), the next game drop featuring ice caves, a creator platform push, a Minecraft World theme park opening in London, and a few community milestones.
The full recap comes from Mojang Studios — read the official Minecraft Live: September 2026 Recap on minecraft.net.
🌌 The Sift — The First New Dimension In Over 14 Years
This is the headline, and it's worth stating plainly: Minecraft is getting a fourth dimension.
- The Sift is coming to Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition next year. It joins the Overworld, Nether and End — a first for the game in more than fourteen years.
- It debuts first in Minecraft Dungeons II, which arrives September 29, 2026, so players can experience a version of it immediately rather than waiting.
- The broadcast showed a glimpse of the dimension in Minecraft — and one of the mobs that calls it home. Mojang was otherwise deliberately light on specifics.
- Its areas include the Meadow and the Carapace, and it's described as "beautiful, vibrant, and teeming with souls".
Expect more in-depth reveals between now and release — Mojang closed the show pointing to further deep dives.
⚔️ Minecraft Dungeons II — Launching September 29
The sequel to Minecraft Dungeons arrives in just two days, and the show gave an extended look at what's changing.
- A new crisis, not a retread. With the Arch-Illager and the Orb of Dominance both long defeated, Design Director Laura de Llorens walked through a world facing a different problem: an ecosystem out of balance and angry illagers everywhere — organised into an Illager High Council.
- An interconnected world instead of level-based missions. Where the first game was mission-select, Dungeons II is built as an interconnected world. Art Director Ullis Linder and Game Director Måns Olson showed it off.
- You can jump. Genuinely a new capability for the Dungeons formula.
- Rifts appear throughout the world — stumble into one and it transports you to the Sift, where you'll find new mobs and, per the show, hopefully good loot.
❄️ The Next Game Drop — Ice Caves & A Frozen Zombie Variant
The first look at the next game drop went underground:
- A new cave biome: ice caves — in the same family as the dripstone, lush and sulfur caves, filled with ice and calcite blocks.
- Icicles grow naturally on the ceiling. Ice crystals grow on the ground and emit a soft light. Both are usable as building blocks, so expect them in builds rather than just loot.
- A new frozen zombie variant — no name yet. When it hits you it deals damage and applies a freezing effect, and some of them throw ice balls at range.
- Adventure remains the long-term focus. Game Director Agnes Larsson used the opening of the show to restate that adventure is a main focus area — and this drop follows that thread with "aspirational challenges".
- The feedback site got a glow-up. If you want a say in how ice caves and that zombie land, Mojang points you at feedback.minecraft.net.
🛠️ The Creator Platform — Lowering The Barrier
Jens Bergenström, Chief Creative Officer, outlined Mojang's intent to inspire and enable new generations of Minecraft creators by removing obstacles in the way.
The stated vision: lower the barrier for more players to become Minecraft creators by improving the tools and systems used to create, manage and share game content. More Minecraft in the world, thanks to more people making Minecraft.
🎢 Minecraft World Opens In London In 2027
- Minecraft World opens at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in London in 2027.
- The world's first Minecraft World Hotel — themed rooms, meals in a deep-sea diner, and the chance to mingle with mobs.
- "Escape the Nether" — the world's first Minecraft rollercoaster, both indoors and outdoors, taking you up, down and all around, "just like you do in the Nether you already know and love. Or loathe."
🔊 Sound Effects Packs Are Coming To The Marketplace
Sound Effects Packs were shown at Minecraft Live and are coming to the Minecraft Marketplace — honking, grunting, screaming, tooting, hooting and the rest of the cacophony, soon available for your own Overworld adventures.
🎥 The Deep Dig — After-Show Playthroughs
Vu Bui hosted the after-show, sitting down with creators and studio members to actually play the new content:
- The Meadow and the Sift in Minecraft Dungeons II with Klas, Laura and Ph1lzA.
- The ice caves with Agnes, Katie and FalseSymmetry, where they encountered the frozen zombie variant and, by the sound of it, a great many icicles.
🎉 Also Announced
- Minecraft Education turns 10. Happy birthday.
- Minecraft arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27.
- Community challenge: place 50 million straw beds and 200 million cushions across the Overworld.
- Cushions are apparently a building material now — Agnes demonstrated them turned into a monorail, pillars and ladders. You place, the community sits.
🖥️ What This Means For Your Minecraft Server
- A fourth dimension is the biggest server-planning event in years. New dimensions mean new world generation, new blocks and mobs, and a fresh set of navigation and teleport targets. When The Sift arrives next year, expect plugin and mod ecosystems — world borders, region tools, protection plugins, anticheat, minimaps — to need updates, and expect players to want access to it immediately. Start budgeting update time now, not in the week it lands.
- Ice caves will be the next patch-day spike. A new cave biome plus a new hostile mob that applies a freezing effect is exactly the kind of drop that pulls lapsed players back and sends them mining. New biome generation also means fresh chunk generation load — the moment when a server's storage and single-core performance get tested.
- Dungeons II is a separate game, not a server concern. It launches September 29 as its own title. It's worth knowing because it will occupy your community's attention for a week — and because it's the first place players can experience the Sift, which will drive questions about when it's coming to your server's world.
- Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27 expands the player base. More platforms means more potential members — and, if your server supports crossplay, a new cohort of players looking for a community.
- Watch the creator-platform story. Mojang's stated goal is better tooling to create, manage and share content. Better authoring tools tend to mean more and better add-ons and marketplace content over time, which is good news for servers that lean on community content.
- Ask for what you need on the feedback site. With a new dimension and a new mob still in development, feedback.minecraft.net is where server-relevant requests actually get seen.

Conclusion
Minecraft Live's fall edition was unusually heavy on structural news. The Sift is Minecraft's fourth dimension — the first new one in over fourteen years — arriving in Java & Bedrock next year and playable first in Minecraft Dungeons II on September 29, 2026, which also brings an interconnected world and, at last, jumping. The next game drop takes us into ice caves with icicles, glowing ice crystals and an unnamed frozen zombie variant that chills you on hit. Add a creator platform push, Minecraft World and its "Escape the Nether" rollercoaster in London in 2027, Sound Effects Packs for the Marketplace, Minecraft Education's tenth birthday, Switch 2 on October 27, and a community challenge counting 50 million straw beds.
