Schedule 1 v0.4.7 Open Beta — Avatar System Rebuilt, Special Customer Groups & Hundreds of Megabytes Less Memory

Schedule 1 v0.4.7 is available to test on the beta branch, and it's a substantial one. The headline is a complete rebuild of the avatar appearance system — the old one was, in the developer's own words, pretty janky and wouldn't have been able to support user-created cosmetics coming in a future update. Alongside it: four new special customer groups, a new Hyland Medical interior, a big batch of purchasable clothes and cosmetics, new teleport locations, and a memory optimization worth hundreds of megabytes on late-game saves.

⚠️ Read this before loading a save on the beta: the way player appearances are saved has changed. Playing an existing save will automatically convert legacy appearances to the new save format. If you switch back to the default version of the game after playing this beta, any appearances converted to the new format will not load properly. Back up your save before you test — and keep your community's live world on the default branch.

👥 New Special Customer Groups

Four themed groups of customers are now in the game, each with their own named members:

  • Hippies — Amethyst Pidley, Bodie Hunt, Charlie Menson, Dylan Roberts, Jayne Lemons, Krystal Bird, Rose Welsh, Samantha Spears.
  • Party Bus — Brad Chaddington, Chad Chaddington, Broc Evans, Dave Trotter, Josh Harrington, Michelle Delacroix, Stacy Sinclair, Terry Haines, Tracy Dupree.
  • Businessmen — Bill Short, Grant Gainsworth, Hunter Yieldman, Johnny Smith, Micky Boone, Penny Stockman.
  • Bikers — Bob Harley, Butch Malone, Diesel Rodd, Joey Quinn, Rick Boggers, Shane Mulligan, Timmy Benson, Vince Knuckles.

And they don't just stand there — the special customers got new NPC behaviours: talking on the phone, using a laptop, sitting on the ground, dancing, peeing, vomiting, boinking, and revving motorcycles.

🏥 Hyland Medical & New Places

  • Added the Hyland Medical interior — and Hyland Medical is now a purchasable business.
  • Added black rubber mats, available in the hardware store, in 1x1, 2x2 and 4x4 sizes.
  • Added a Persian rug, available in Bleuball's Boutique.
  • Made the corporate plaza a bit bigger.
  • Several new teleport locations: southoverpass, suburbia, park, westville and casino.
  • Modified several NPC schedules to work with the new Hyland Medical interior.

👕 New Clothes, Accessories & Cosmetics

New purchasable clothes and accessories:

  • Eyewear: gold aviators, silver aviators, browline glasses, round tinted glasses.
  • Headgear: beer hat, jet helmet, panzer helmet, plus Paisley and USA bandanas.
  • Ties: blue, red, green and brown.
  • Tops: leather jacket, aqua/purple/yellow tie-dye shirts, dirty tank top, hot shirt, Molerats jersey, tube top, mesh top.

Plus three new hairstyles — 'The businessman', Poofy wavey and Long wavey — and three new purchasable facial hair styles: Chevron, Swirly and Biker mustache.

✨ The Avatar Appearance Rebuild

This is the structural change behind all those cosmetics, and it's the part that matters for the future:

  • The avatar appearance system was rebuilt from scratch — clothing, hairstyles, body shape and so on. Per the developer, the old system "was pretty janky and would not have been adequate to support user-created cosmetics (coming in a future update)".
  • Accessories and layers have been removed and replaced with 'AvatarObjects'. An AvatarObject can have several layers and attachments associated with it.
  • AvatarSettings is gone, replaced by NakedAppearance plus Outfit.

In other words: the cosmetic foundation was replaced with something extensible, specifically so that player-made content can hook into it later. That's the most forward-looking change in the patch.

⚖️ Businesses, Economy & Quality of Life

  • Business laundering capacities were increased: post office 4000 → 5000, car wash 6000 → 8000, Taco Ticklers 8000 → 12000.
  • Added the new queuecustomergroup command — useful for anyone staging specific customer groups, whether for testing or for setting up a scene.
  • Tweaked the wording of several conversations and NPC dialogue (with more grammar and spelling fixes below).
  • Refactored the system controlling NPC walk speed and cleaned up NPC code and cutscene code.

⚡ Performance & Optimizations

  • Optimized how icons are generated and saved for mixed products — which, per the patch notes, "should result in several-hundred megabytes saved in memory use for late-game saves". If you run a long-lived world with a big product catalogue, this is the single most valuable line in the update.
  • Improved how NPC ragdolls work so physics components aren't created until they're actually needed, avoiding unnecessary physics overhead.
  • Improved the fire effect in the burning barrels.
  • Removed some unused textures from the terrain, and fixed several trash LODs to reduce pop-in.

🐞 Bug Fixes

  • Fixed physics props falling out of sync when thrown in multiplayer. The most multiplayer-relevant fix in the list.
  • Fixed NPC-driven vehicles failing to detect obstacles when in 'kinematic mode'.
  • Refactored sleeping logic.
  • Fixed 'I'm stuck' button teleporting vehicles to the wrong location in the prologue, and the contacts app viewport sometimes being incorrectly positioned there.
  • Fixed NPCs sometimes not facing the right direction for certain behaviours.
  • Fixed avatar impostors being incorrectly positioned when the avatar is ragdolled.
  • Fixed dress shoes clipping with feet, and several hairstyles clipping with hats.
  • Fixed skateboard input prompts remaining visible after getting off the skateboard.
  • Fixed a rounding issue in tree rendering code, and various spelling and grammar errors in NPC conversations.

🖥️ What This Means For Your Server

  • Do not run this beta on your live community world. The appearance save conversion goes one way — switch back to the default branch and converted appearances won't load correctly. Test on a copy, with a backup taken first.
  • The memory optimization is the reason to care even if you skip the beta. Several hundred megabytes less memory in late-game saves is exactly the kind of win that keeps a long-running server from degrading after days of uptime. Expect it to land in the default branch later — and in the meantime it's a good argument for enough RAM headroom to hold a mature save.
  • Multiplayer physics props are fixed. Props falling out of sync when thrown is a client/server desync symptom; having it patched matters most on populated servers where thrown physics objects are constant.
  • User-created cosmetics are coming. The avatar rebuild was done specifically to support them, which signals a future modding/customization surface. If you run a community, that's worth planning around early.
  • Beta testing is a real contribution here. The new customer groups, NPC behaviours and cosmetic sets are exactly the content that benefits from players reporting what breaks — and the patch notes end with a batch of clipping fixes that only surface when people actually wear the clothes.
  • Back up before every beta session. Two separate risks in one patch — a one-way save format change and a prologue vehicle teleport bug — make automated backups with one-click restore the difference between testing and losing a world.

Conclusion

v0.4.7 is a foundation-laying beta. The avatar appearance system was rebuilt from scratch — AvatarObjects with layers and attachments, NakedAppearance and Outfit replacing AvatarSettings — explicitly to make room for user-created cosmetics down the line. Around it: four new special customer groups with all-new NPC behaviours, the Hyland Medical interior as a purchasable business, a wide spread of new clothing, accessories, hairstyles and facial hair, five new teleport locations, the queuecustomergroup command, higher laundering capacities, and a memory optimization that saves hundreds of megabytes on late-game saves.

Just take a backup of your save before you touch the beta branch — that appearance conversion doesn't go backwards.
