Team Fortress 2 October 2 Update — Halloween Contract Objective Swaps, A cp_wildcat_event Exploit Fix & Longer ctf_medi_evil Matches
Valve followed Scream Fortress XVIII with a quick October 2, 2026 cleanup patch aimed squarely at the event: missing strings and voice lines, a cosmetic lightwarp error, an Unusual effect that was hard to see, an aiming exploit on cp_wildcat_event, and a pair of contract objective swaps that change how you earn this year's rewards.
🔧 General Fixes
- Added the missing
zi_strings — the Zombie Infection map updates in Scream Fortress XVIII introduced enough new text that some strings didn't make it. Now they have. - Fixed missing VO lines for the Taunt: One-Eyed Punt! One of the five new community taunts was missing some of its voice work.
- Fixed Scout Crazy Legs using the incorrect lightwarp (community fix from Chickenman456) — a shading mismatch that made the cosmetic render wrong.
- Updated the Skeleton Crew to add a second style that was originally missed.
- Updated the Autumn Breeze Unusual effect to fix visibility problems. Given that 21 new Unusual effects shipped with the event, one of them being hard to see was a fair thing to sort out quickly.
🗺️ cp_wildcat_event
- Fixed an exploit where Heavy and Sniper could move at full speed while aiming. This is the most consequential fix in the patch — being able to keep full movement speed while scoped or spun up is a genuine competitive advantage, not a minor bug.
- Fixed Jack-o'-Potion appear and break sounds playing globally. Everyone on the server hearing every potion event across the map was noise, and on a busy server it was constant noise.
- Fixed being able to capture points while using the Pain Train as a pumpkin (community fix by Skull).
- Replaced the "Collect a Halloween Pumpkin" contract objective with "Kill with a pumpkin bomb".
🗺️ ctf_medi_evil
- Timer increased to 10 minutes (previously 8), and overtime was removed. So matches are longer but resolve on the clock rather than running long in overtime.
- Replaced the "Kill with a pumpkin bomb" contract objective with "Get 5 kills in a single life".
🎃 What The Contract Swaps Mean
Both objective changes are worth noting if you're grinding this year's Halloween Contracts:
- cp_wildcat_event now asks you to kill with a pumpkin bomb instead of collecting a pumpkin — a change from a passive objective to an active one.
- ctf_medi_evil flipped the other way: its pumpkin bomb objective was replaced with getting 5 kills in a single life, which is a considerably harder ask than it sounds on a map where dying resets the counter.
In other words, the two maps no longer share the same pumpkin-bomb objective, and each now demands a different kind of play.
🖥️ What This Means For Your Server
- The Heavy/Sniper aiming exploit fix matters if you host cp_wildcat_event. Full-speed aiming was a real advantage that regulars would have noticed — and it's the kind of thing that quietly teaches a server's population to play around a bug.
- The global sound fix noticeably reduces server-wide noise. Every potion appear and break sound being broadcast to all players is a small thing individually and a constant irritant collectively, especially during Halloween events when everyone is using them.
- ctf_medi_evil matches are now longer but clock-bound. 10 minutes with no overtime means your rotations, server timers and any plugin logic tied to match length should be checked.
- Contract objectives changed on two featured maps. If your community has been coordinating contract completions — or you publish guides or Discord instructions — those are now out of date for cp_wildcat_event and ctf_medi_evil.
- Keep the update rolling during the event. Scream Fortress XVIII runs through November 7, 2026, so these fixes land mid-event. Updating your server keeps event maps behaving the way the rest of the playerbase now sees them.

Conclusion
The October 2 update is a short event cleanup: missing zi_ strings, missing VO for One-Eyed Punt!, the Scout Crazy Legs lightwarp (thanks Chickenman456), a second style for the Skeleton Crew, a visibility fix for the Autumn Breeze Unusual effect, a full-speed-aiming exploit fixed on cp_wildcat_event along with its global potion sounds and pumpkin Pain Train capture, and ctf_medi_evil moving to 10 minutes with no overtime. The headline for players is the pair of contract objective swaps — pumpkin bomb kills on cp_wildcat_event, five kills in a single life on ctf_medi_evil.
