Team Fortress 2 October 5 Update — sv_wallbug For Community Servers, Halloween Contract Fixes & A Long-Session View Jitter Fix
Valve shipped another substantial October 5, 2026 update for Team Fortress 2, and this one has something for nearly everyone: a new convar specifically for community servers, a fix for view jitter that builds up over long play sessions, a pile of Halloween event corrections, and fixes for out-of-bounds exploits across five Zombie Infection maps.
⚙️ sv_wallbug — The Server-Owner Headline
- Added the
sv_wallbugconvar to allow previous movement behaviour on community servers — Valve notes it is "related to the missed note at the bottom", which is the fix for players getting stuck in certain oblique angles of walls and props.
That pairing matters. The update fixes a bug where players could get stuck against awkward wall and prop angles, and that fix changes movement behaviour. Any change to collision or movement has knock-on effects for community servers — surf maps, jump challenges, movement tech, custom game modes — so sv_wallbug exists to let server owners go back to the previous behaviour if the fix breaks something on their server.
If your community runs anything movement-dependent, this is the convar to test with. Everything else in the patch can be taken as-is.
🔧 General Fixes
- Fixed view jitter that occurs and persists when playing for extended periods. A recurring, building-up camera problem is the kind of bug that quietly ruins long play sessions — and, on a populated server, makes players blame their own setup.
- Fixed
snd_mix_asyncfrom crashing the game, and fixedsv_parallel_sendsnapshot— two server-relevant settings repaired. - Fixed the Marshlands contract not activating.
- Fixed the Skeleton Crew not hiding Sniper bullets, and the Bone Chiller not hiding the correct bodygroup.
- Fixed additional bodygroup settings for styles not being applied to disguised Spies. A nice detail fix — disguised Spies now respect style-specific bodygroups properly.
- Updated the Bounty Hunter's Brim to fix a material problem.
- Updated the Clowning Cowl: fixed a minor clipping issue on Pyro's right shoulder strap for the Untucked style in some standing poses, and fixed texture warping on the Tucked style.
- Fixed the "Get a train, saw, or laser kill" objective on TrainSawLaser not counting kills — a contract objective that simply didn't register was blocking progress through no fault of the player.
🎃 Halloween Event Tuning
- Marshlands now uses
mp_winlimit 2, like last year. Worth flagging to any plugin or rotation logic tied to match length. - Updated the numbers required to complete the Scaredy-Cat bonus objectives.
- Updated quest objectives for Outburst (VSH).
🧟 Zombie Infection — Out-of-Bounds Exploits Fixed
- Updated
zi_blazehattan,zi_devastation_final1,zi_murky,zi_sanitariumandzi_woodsto fix out-of-bounds exploits using Zombie Engineer's Beacon.
This is a direct follow-up to Scream Fortress XVIII, which gave Zombie Engineer the new Beacon ability — a throwable spawn point. Players found ways to use it to reach areas they shouldn't, and Valve has patched five maps at once. If your server runs any of those maps, the exploits are closed after updating.
🛠️ For Custom Map Makers & Server Owners
- Increased various limits for new custom maps. A quiet but meaningful change — custom map authors have been pushing the engine's limits, and those ceilings just went up.
- Added a
-notjuncsdetailoption to VBSP. A compiler option for mappers working with junction-based detail geometry.
📌 Missed From The Halloween Update
- Fixed a bug where players could have a chance to get stuck in certain oblique angles of walls and props. This is the fix that
sv_wallbugexists to revert — see the top of this post.
🖥️ What This Means For Your Server
- Decide on
sv_wallbug. Keep the new movement behaviour (the default, and the fix), or revert to the previous behaviour if the wall/prop angle fix interferes with movement-centric content on your server. Either way, test on a map your community actually plays before deciding. - Check anything that depends on match length for Marshlands.
mp_winlimit 2is now consistent with last year, but if you have plugin logic, timers or rotations tuned around last week's behaviour, review them. - Update if you host any of the five zi_ maps. Beacon-based out-of-bounds exploits let Zombies reach places the map authors never intended — that's both a gameplay and a fairness problem on a populated server.
- The custom map limit increases are good news for your map collection. If your community has been bumping into engine ceilings with large or detailed custom maps, this may be the reason they started working.
- Long-session view jitter is fixed. If regulars complained about the camera drifting or jittering after an hour or two of play, that's now addressed — and it's worth telling them, because it was easy to blame on their own hardware.
- Two server settings were repaired.
snd_mix_asyncno longer crashes the game, andsv_parallel_sendsnapshotis fixed — both worth re-enabling if you had disabled them as workarounds.

Conclusion
The October 5 update is a broad Halloween-event clean-up with one clear headline for server owners: sv_wallbug, which lets community servers revert to the previous movement behaviour after the fix for players getting stuck in oblique wall and prop angles. Elsewhere: a fix for view jitter that persists in long sessions, repairs to snd_mix_async and sv_parallel_sendsnapshot, a Marshlands contract that wasn't activating, clothing bodygroup fixes for the Skeleton Crew, Bone Chiller and disguised Spies, material and styling fixes for the Bounty Hunter's Brim and Clowning Cowl, a TrainSawLaser objective that wasn't counting kills, five zi_ maps patched against Beacon out-of-bounds exploits, raised custom map limits and a new -notjuncsdetail VBSP option.
Test sv_wallbug against your movement maps, then update the zi_ maps and tell your regulars the jitter is gone.
